It was a packed house as the Location Managers Guild of America, founded in 2003, held its first awards ceremony Saturday night to honor its own for motion picture, television, and commercial achievements in 2013. Runaway production, the inexplicable and painful loss of Sarah Jones, killed on location in Georgia, and the formidable bond of location managers and scouts were all open topics among the tight crowd at The Writers Guild Theater venue in Beverly Hills.

It was my 6th grade graduation.This was before 6th grade graduations were a standard ‘thing.’. *Real* graduations were, of course, for 12th graders, but my school held our 6th grade ceremony on the last day of school, a half-day with no bus service as it was assumed that every student’s parent(s) would attend.

My grandfather passed away this week at 91 years old. He was known as James - or Jim - both equally fitting, but I only called him one name: Afi - Icelandic for 'grandfather.' My paternal grandparents had both died by the time I was born. My maternal grandfather, Gisli, lived in Iceland. He loved to send me craft chocolates and books of fairy tales from there.
